Pupil Parliament & Class Ambassadors
At Rushy Meadow we actively promote pupil leadership opportunities, enabling your child to develop valuable communication and organisation skills.
We believe that providing pupils with key roles of responsibility is paramount to their development and learning experience.
Pupil Parliament
Our successful Pupil Parliament is a well-respected body within the school and consists of pupils between Years 3 and 6. All pupils have the opportunity to run as a class representative. They explain why they would make a good member of the Pupil Parliament and then a decision is made by the class as to who will be appointed. There are two representatives for each class.
Children involved in our Pupil Parliament meet once every two weeks with the Headteacher to discuss issues and initiatives that affect them and their learning environment.
There is a detailed agenda for each meeting and minutes are taken. The team share new ideas and vote on a number of school-related issues. As part of their responsibilities, each representative has a book to record the minutes and tasks. Actions from each meeting are shared with the rest of the school on a regular basis. Pupils relish the opportunity to become a greater part of school life and enjoy making their voices heard.
What do we expect of children in Pupil Parliament?
We have identified the following attributes that make up a good pupil parliament representative:

- Be passionate about improving experience and outcomes at our school
- Be able to speak up if they see something wrong
- Be a good role model to other students
- Consistently follow our golden rules (Be Kind, Be Honest, Be Polite, Be Responsible, Be Respectful)

Class Ambassadors
Class Ambassadors were a new role introduced in September 2024. There is one class ambassador for each class. This role has been introduced as a way of increasing the opportunities that pupils across the school have for developing responsibility. At Rushy Meadow, we have a number of new students join us each year. The foremost job of the class ambassador is to welcome any new child into the class and be a first week buddy, showing them where to go and what to do etc. The class ambassador may also be called upon during parent tours to share more about what their class is learning and what they enjoy most at Rushy Meadow.
Year 6 class ambassadors have the added responsibility of meeting all new students.
The class ambassadors will fulfil this role for half the school year. After the Spring half-term, a new class ambassador will be selected for each class.
